07 Jul Turf Defenders Mid- Summer Lawn Health Blog July 2026
Drought pressure remains, but maybe some long range relief in sight!
The Rains Return (hopefully)…

Fortunately, we are seeing some summer rainfall. Much needed, and very welcome! The drought still persists but is improving.
Remember These Mid-Summer Lawn Health Watering Guidelines1
Only water in the early mornings
Water the lawn deeply to soak the soil 4-5″ deep
Avoid nighttime, and mid-day irrigation to avoid fungus, and ensure efficiency.
If your address is even your watering days are even days (no Wednesday’s) and the opposite for odd house numbers.
Conway corp remains on phase 2 of water curtailment so ensure the sprinkler system is inline with the guidelines they’ve set forth. This condition is expected to continue to effect summer lawn health. We anticipate a shift to phase 3 curtailment this week, which will likely increase watering restrictions or halt lawn watering entirely. While recent rain and warm temperatures are helping damaged lawns mend, soil moisture remains at less than half of normal levels. It will take months of consistent rainfall or a seasonal shift to fully recover. With the peak drought season of July and August just around the corner, it is vital to water as much as possible now before stricter curtailment measures take effect. Bagworms
- If you have arborvitae, juniper, knockout roses, lorapetelums, or other evergreen shrubs or trees. Keep a sharp eye out for bagworms. These little pests will devour a tree in days. You’ll see them hauling around their little bag as they move around your shrubbery. Sadly we cant prevent them, so be sure to let us know if you see them so we can keep them from permanently damaging evergreen trees, and shrubs. Treatment is effective, and carries little to no risk to pollinators, as long as shrubs aren’t flowering.
- Also, watch for Japanese beetles. These little green beetles will decimate a flowering shrub. While there isn’t a pollinator safe control strategy there are things that can be done to mitigate their chewing damage.
Fungus Among Us
- Late afternoon and overnight rainfall is exacerbating fungal infections in stressed areas or lawns, and in drought stressed landscapes. Particularly in zoysiagrass. Bermuda isn’t as susceptible to fungal infection as it can outgrown fungus. Zoysia, centipede, and St Augustine ARE susceptible to many fungal types. Look for round or circular shaped thin areas appearing. If you see them in between visits, please let us know! We can treat small areas as part of your regular service. Rest assured we will address any fungal issues we see during regular visits.
